Down with fever......

I was having Fever for last 4 days. Initially I thought it may be just because of the change in whether condition, but then the symptoms showed that it is Flu. Rushed to the doctor on Sunday when the temp rose to 102.
Feeling better today.... so joined the office.
Took leave from the office for Mon-Tue to take rest, but those were the most boring days I ever faced. I kept lying on the bed whole day doing nothing just munching some cookies and drinking water and sometime receiving calls from tele-marketing agencies. I was'nt feeling energetic enough even to sit and watch the TV or surf the net. I remember sleeping like that some 8 years back when I was down with Zondice and Typhoid.
Got this good link from google on FLU. It details the Sympotms, cause and precautions to be taken.

Working Late or.......

Since the day I have been into Job I have observed that many people stay in the office till late evening. Initially I appreciated it and thought how hard work these guys are putting up to meet the project deadline and providing production support.
But gradually I started realising that more than 70% of these hard working guys really don't do such hard work. They stay late in the office either because:
1. They have got nothing else to do or no other place to go and spend time - These people gradually becomes accoustmed to staying late and feels better in office than at home.
2. Then their are other kinds of people; people who stays late in the office just because their bosses are staying late. Their bosses again may be staying late because of reason 1 or 2.

We do encounter people who stay late in the office for genuine reasons, but the percentage of such people is very low. The argument goes like this:
1. If the above mentioned 70% are genuinely staying late, then the manpower estimation has been done really bad by the project manager.
2. If we say that the manager has really done the estimation efficiently, then high probability for the root cause is that the skills have not been chosen efficiently.

Because if your manager argues that both the skills and the manpower estimation has been mapped efficiently, then how is it that more than 70% of the team has to do overtime with no pay? But the bigger question is, are these 70% of the team really doing work sitting late in the office?

Skiing is Fun....

Last weekend got some time out from the hectic schedule and went skiing with a couple of friends (check the Photos here). It was real fun, sliding down the snow with all speed and the moment you tried to stop yourself or slow down... you are down :))
We reached there at about noon and then rented the Ski kits that costed about $70 per person. The boot was real heavy and once you wear it, you got to walk like you are walking in a space, carefully putting your first leg before you lift the other one.
In the first go I fell about 6 times on the entire distance between Starting and the End point. But gradually improved myself on the successive go.
One of my friend bumped into a couple of girls as he tried showing up the stunt, but their was no injury.
A couple of things to note about skiing.... its like entering a "Chakraview", you should know how to stop and more than that, know the trick to open your Skates before setting yourself on the track. Because once you fall you can't get up with your skates on.
You can go on and on and on without stopping and keep gaining momentum, but the moment you would try to stop or slowdown.... you are gonna fall for sure :-D
